Norwich Union Risk Services is running its first-ever one-day courses to help businesses tackle the ever-increasing problems of stress and violence in the workplace.
Starting in September, the courses are aimed at preparing managers to identify problems and implement strategies to alleviate the effects of these issues.
The “Managing Stress” course examines the causes and effects of stress in the workplace and highlights the responsibilities of companies and their senior staff to find solutions.
In “Managing Workplace Violence”, managers will learn how to assess the risks of violence in their working environment, how to develop the necessary policies that their organisation should adopt and how to handle an actual incident and its aftermath.
Teresa Budworth, of Norwich Union Risk Services, says: “With stress identified as a problem in more than 80 per cent of workplaces and violence now ranked by employees as the biggest single threat to their safety at work, companies need to know how to deal effectively with these worrying developments.
“Stress is a priority issue for the Health and Safety Executive, and we have now seen them issue their first enforcement notice requiring an employer to comply with the law and manage this issue.”
