Morley Fund Management, one of the UK’s largest fund managers, has made two appointments to boost its fund management strength in pan-European equities. David Shapiro and Daniel Roberts have joined as value fund managers specialising in UK equities.
David Shapiro joined from UBS Global Asset Management where he worked since 1998 as a Pan European Sector Analyst and previously a fund manager. Prior to UBS, he held a number of fund manager and analyst roles at companies including the Universities Superannuation Scheme, Manulife Investment Management and Girozentrale Gilbert Elliot.
Daniel Roberts joined in July from Invesco Asset Management where he was a UK fund manager and Pan European Equity Analyst. Prior to Invesco he worked at M&G Investment Management as an analyst and trainee fund manager. He has also worked in market risk management at JP Morgan and as an audit manager for PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
David will head up the UK value team and report to Mike Bishop, Head of Pan European Equities. Daniel will report to David and the pair will work alongside European equity fund managers Rita Dhut and Philip Parker who already manage a selection of continental European funds on a value basis.
Although traditionally a GARP (Growth at a Reasonable Price) house, Morley also has specialist value managers who run a number of funds with a value style. These can be stand-alone funds or parts of larger portfolios that are organised on a core-satellite basis. David and Daniel will manage funds worth Ł3 billion, including value satellites for Morley’s life company portfolio and unit-linked pension funds.
Commenting on the appointments, Mike Bishop, Head of Pan European Equities at Morley, said: “We are delighted that fund managers of the calibre of David Shapiro and Daniel Roberts are joining the Pan European team at Morley. Their focus on investing in UK equities using a value style will add an extra dimension to our team, which will particularly benefit our life and pension clients.”
