Companies not meeting the demands of the latest regulations governing dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres could face legal action, according to Norwich Union Risk Services.
The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) require businesses to assess risk, identify hazardous zones and implement control measures where explosive atmospheres may be present.
Teresa Budworth, Norwich Union Risk Services’ Training and Consultancy Manager, said: “The consequences of failing to meet the requirements of these regulations can be far more serious than even a prosecution. A dust or flammable atmosphere explosion can lead to multiple fatalities and gross damage to plant.”
Organisations can learn more about complying with the regulations through two new one-day seminars being run by Norwich Union Risk Services around the UK.
The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres course gives managers and safety professionals the knowledge they need to ensure their company is compliant. For technical personnel and safety professionals, the DSEAR Assessment course will equip them to perform risk assessments and implement control measures.
