Norwich Union has made changes to the senior management team of its general insurance business following a restructure of the Aviva executive team, which was announced today.

Patrick Snowball will become Aviva group executive director, general insurance. In this role he will continue as chief executive, Norwich Union Insurance and, in addition, the major general insurance businesses in Canada, Ireland and Asia will report to him.

As a result of the changes to the Aviva group board, there will be some reorganisation of the roles and responsibilities of the Norwich Union Insurance senior management team.

Corporate Partnerships, Retail, Marketing and Underwriting functions will be combined to become Sales and Marketing, reporting to Bridget McIntyre, who becomes Norwich Union Insurance sales and marketing director.

Claims and Operations functions will be brought together to become Customer Services, reporting to Simon Machell, who will become Norwich Union Insurance customer services director.

All the new roles will take effect from 1 July 2003. Ken Wallace (intermediary business director), Mark Hodges (finance director), John Ainley (HR director) and Alex Robinson (information technology director) will remain in their current roles. Cathryn Riley, currently retail director, will become managing director of Norwich Union Healthcare.

The new structure will further enhance Aviva’s international presence as well as strengthening the focus on delivering excellent customer service to intermediaries, direct customers and corporate partners.

Commenting on the new structure, Patrick Snowball, group executive director, general insurance, said: “This more simplified structure has a strong focus on customer service. The changes will also create opportunities for us to share learning and to focus on operational excellence across our general insurance businesses worldwide.

“We are committed to delivering excellent service to our intermediaries and we expect this to further improve as the benefits of a simpler organisation become apparent.”

As a result of this reorganisation, there will be changes to some senior management roles within Norwich Union Insurance. These changes will begin over the next few weeks and are due to be completed by the end of June.
