People in the Norwich area are being urged to put a spring in their step and sign up for a sponsored walk for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Local employer Norwich Union, the UK’s largest insurer, is supporting the charity’s Crocus Walk, two of which this year are taking place on Sunday 30 March in Norfolk.
The company has pledged to match pound for pound the total money raised by walkers, up to the value of Ł100,000 – which last year meant a Ł200,000 cash boost to fund vital research into a disease which claims the lives of over 1,000 women a month in the UK.
David Czerwinski, head of sponsorship and community at Norwich Union, says: “This is the second year we’ve been involved with the Crocus Walks and we’re proud to be supporting Breakthrough’s invaluable work once again. By matching the money raised by walkers, every step you take this spring will be worth twice as much to Breakthrough, and will send a message of hope that breast cancer can be beaten.”
Kelly Barr, customer service representative with Norwich Union, who’s arranging the three hour long walk in Thetford Forest this year, says that around 10 people have already been recruited for the walk, but would welcome anyone else who wants to come along. Also happy for others to join her walk is Lynsey McMaster, HR Consultant at Norwich Union, who’s arranging a walk at Ranworth Nature Reserve.
And the Crocus Walks are also being supported by Country Living magazine, which will be contributing prizes to the most successful fundraisers.
To sign up for your local Crocus Walk please call Breakthrough Breast Cancer on 020 7557 6602 or e-mail at events@breakthrough.org.uk.
