At the end of November, staff from Aviva teamed up with Trees for London to help in the ‘greening of London’.
Through Aviva’s support, eight trees were planted in the Whitechapel area of London as part of the campaign to help plant a million more trees in London by 2010.
"Planting trees is one of the most visible and practical ways in which one can make a contribution to environmental improvement and staff have consistently supported it. The trees Aviva has planted off Commercial Road were an opportunity to make a little difference "in the backyard" of the Corporate Office," said Anthony Sampson, director of corporate social responsibility at Aviva.
Graham Simmonds, Chief Executive for Trees for London, commented: “I’m delighted that Aviva are supporting our million trees campaign. There are so many areas of London that are lacking in tree cover, which we want to improve and it is only by working in partnership that we can make London a truly green city.”
Lee Callaghan, senior corporate lawyer, who participated in the planting activities said: “Trees provide the oxygen London needs so badly. Trees for London found an ideal location that in just a few years will look magnificent. When our trees have matured further, they can be enjoyed by both local residents and workers alike.”
Trees for London is an independent charity carrying out tree planting and landscaping work with local communities in some of London’s most deprived areas. To find out more about Trees for London and how you could become involved, visit their website at: www.treesforlondon.co.uk
