Morley Fund Management (‘Morley’) has won the ‘Sustainable and Ethical Investment and Asset Management Award’ at The Liveable City Awards.

Morley Fund Management (‘Morley’) has won the ‘Sustainable and Ethical Investment and Asset Management Award’ at The Liveable City Awards.

The awards were presented by the Chief Commoner, Jonathan Charkham, on 20 February 2002 in the City of London in recognition of outstanding achievement in environmental protection by City businesses.

The Liveable City Awards were established by a consortium of organisations including the Corporation of London, The Sustainable City Forum and some of the City’s leading Livery Companies.

Morley’s entry was based around four main achievements:

  1. One of the largest dedicated Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) teams in the UK providing a range of retail and pension funds.
  2. A Corporate Governance Voting Policy that requires companies to disclose their policy on social and environmental issues.
  3. The launch of the UK’s first institutional property regeneration fund – the IGLOO Regeneration Partnership.
  4. Their belief in Positive Engagement with the companies that they invest in to influence them to improve their social and environmental performance.

Commenting on the award, Paul Moody, Head of Business Development – SRI at Morley Fund Management, said: “We are delighted to win this award and to be recognised for our achievements over the last year. Morley has made great steps towards establishing ourselves as the leading provider of SRI in Europe, through our SRI fund range, Corporate Governance Policy and our engagement with companies to ensure best practice.”

Commenting on Morley’s application, Steven Lines, Chairman of the Sustainable City Forum Property Sub-Group, said: "This was a strong entry from one of the leading firms in this field. Morley have one of the largest Socially Responsible Investment teams in the country and have tried to integrate sustainability into their mainstream analysis of companies. They are also actively engaged in Corporate engagement programmes through which they try to improve the performance of companies in which they invest."

Notes to Editors

Morley’s SRI Team
Led by Clare Brook, the socially responsible investment team is one of the largest, the most experienced in the UK.

Clare and her colleagues have been working together for nearly a decade. In this time, they have grown in reputation and status. Team members are frequently asked for advice by companies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government departments. The team was involved with policy making for the new legislation that requires pension fund trustees to disclose their stance on social and environmental issues.

The team has a global perspective and a global reputation, having worked with investment consultants from around the world. Its research efforts focus on the world-wide activities of the companies in which it invests. Members are regularly asked to speak at overseas conferences on SRI issues.
