Norwich Union has donated Ł30,000 to IOSH, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, to develop safety "start-up packs" for new businesses.

The pack will provide guidance to small businesses to help them understand and meet their health, safety and environmental obligations.

The donation cheque was presented to IOSH during their annual conference in Bournemouth. Rob Strange, chief executive of IOSH said: "We are delighted to receive this valuable sponsorship from Norwich Union Risk Services and look forward to working together on this project."

Teresa Budworth, training and consultancy manager with Norwich Union Risk Services explained: "It is vitally important that small businesses integrate Health and Safety operations into their business activities from the outset. The consequences of a serious accident can be particularly devastating for a fledgling firm."

The pack will be developed by IOSH in conjunction with a steering group including representatives from the Health and Safety Executive. The start-up packs will be launched during European Health and Safety Week in October and will be available to small businesses free of charge through banks and building societies.
