Thousands of children in Southampton are set to receive a free medical passport to record their medical history, thanks to Eastleigh-based private medical insurer Norwich Union Healthcare.
The passports, which will be distributed this week to 3,500 school children, allow them to keep details of any medical treatments and condition they have, with the help of their parents and teachers.
The medical histories built up in the booklet, which is called “My Passport”, record vital information such as any allergies the children have and any medication they may need. There are also sections for monitoring the development of eyes, ears and teeth, as well as height and weight.
It is bright, colourful and child-friendly, so that parents and children can enjoy using it together.
The project, developed in partnership with Southampton City Council’s Education division, will see every Year One (6 & 7 year old) child attending schools under the control of Southampton City Council receive a copy of the passport in the next fortnight.
Adam Beckett of Norwich Union Healthcare said “Anything that helps children stay healthy is a good move. Bringing up children is difficult enough without the added worry of ensuring you know the exact details of each child’s medical history.
As part of Norwich Union Healthcare’s commitment to healthy living it’s wonderful to be able to help parents keep track of their children’s health by providing passports to so many children in the local area”.
