Forward thinking: Aviva sponsors new LPO conductor

Aviva will sponsor the London Philharmonic Orchestra's new principal conductor, 31-year-old Vladimir Jurowski, until 2009.

The 31-year-old Russian's appointment was announced today.

Vladimir topped the BBC Music Magazine's poll of the world's top young conductors in 2004, and earlier this year London's Time Out magazine named him classical artist of the year.

For the past three years, he has been the LPO's principal guest conductor as well as music director at Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

As one of the LPO's longest-standing supporters, Aviva is keen to support the orchestra's development. Last year, for example, the group helped launch a new endowment fund to help secure the LPO's future for generations to come.

Group chief executive Richard Harvey said: "Today signifies a new phase in our 30-year partnership with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

"We're both forward-thinking organisations and the appointment of Vladimir Jurowski to the position of principal conductor heralds a dynamic and exciting future for both musicians and audiences alike."
