Suppliers

In practice
Responsible vendor sourcing and management
In Canada, the corporate procurement team promotes responsible supplier sourcing and management in a number of different ways, such as ensuring there is only one Aviva contact for all potential suppliers bidding for a contract, to create a level playing field. Aviva Canada is also developing its existing ordering system to include environmental credentials among the criteria for selecting suppliers.
New Procurement policies with CSR focus
Aviva USA has adopted Aviva plc’s Outsourcing and Purchasing and Supply Management policies. These policies will be implemented in 2008. The Outsourcing policy states that outsourcing should not conflict with Aviva’s CSR approach and values. Similarly, the Purchasing and Supply Management Policy emphasises fair and equitable processes for securing suppliers as well as ethical behaviour when selecting and dealing with suppliers.
Aviva Canada is developing a formal company-wide Procurement policy which will be aligned with the Aviva Group Procurement policy, for roll-out in 2008. Responsible supplier management will be promoted through supplier guidelines and Aviva Canada will ask suppliers directly about key CSR priorities such as environmental protection, community involvement, customer care, health and safety and human rights. Suppliers will be required to provide information on whether or not they have their own CSR policy and a CSR Code of Conduct for their own suppliers.
