Priorities Description of priorities
Purchase energy efficient printers Replace all printers with fewer, more energy efficient models that will provide the option of double-sided printing to all.
Enable workstations to be powered down overnight Deploy ‘wake’ on LAN software allowing all workstations to be powered down overnight and ‘woken up’ to receive any overnight software updates before being powered down again. At present workstations have to be left in powersave mode overnight to allow overnight software updates to take place.
Begin the server virtualisation project The server virtualisation project will reduce the scale of our physical server estate. It allows us to target much higher utilisation levels on our servers, so reducing power and cooling requirements as a server running at 12% uses the same power as one running at 60%.
Reduce energy consumption All printers are to be replaced with fewer, larger models that will provide the option of duplex printing to all. These new printers are more power efficient and will have more options for efficient power management. Installation of energy efficient lighting in conjunction with office refurbishments.
Increase recycling Further increase our recycling efforts - working with local Tesco store to collect and return all plastic carrier bags.
Engage with managing agents to reduce the environmental impacts of our investment properties Continue to work with managing agents to reduce the environmental impact of running our investment properties by improving recycling and making more efficient use of resources.
Engage with BREEAM on a sustainable building management project Contribute to the initial discussions of the BREEAM In Use Advisory Group to help develop a new method to assist organisations manage and use their existing buildings more sustainably.
Achieve very good or excellent BREEAM ratings Wherever possible ensure all new developments and major refurbishments achieve at least a very good BREEAM rating and aspire to an excellent rating if commercially viable.
Ensure new developments are energy efficient and flexible Ensure all new developments and major refurbishments are designed to be energy efficient and also flexible in their use.
