Key achievements in 2006

In 2006 we revised our standards of business conduct policy to include anti-money laundering and accounting practices.

We also played a leading role in developing the code of best practice for insurance companies in Poland. CU Poland CSR Manager initiated the appointment of a special committee in the Polish Chamber of Insurance (PIU) to prepare a code of best practices. He played an active role in drafting the code using Aviva’s standards of business conduct as a base for it. The code is to be adopted by PIU General Assembly in early 2007.

We introduced better services for customers including the option to pay by direct debit and our new call centre system. These initiatives were implemented following feedback from our customer and agent’s satisfaction surveys.

Our Pension Fund won best pension fund in Central Europe from Investment & Pensions Europe magazine. The jury praised our proactive and pioneering work in advancing the corporate governance agenda and in applying and promoting comprehensive corporate governance standards.

We achieved a significant improvement in the results of our global employee climate survey as a result of actions taken during the year.

Our Executive Committee approved the new recruitment, promotion and remuneration policy to ensure that we retain talented employees. It will be rolled out in 2007.

In December 2006 the CU management board approved a community volunteering policy, which will come into effect in 2007. The policy will enable employees up to one additional day’s leave a year for volunteering activities during company time.

To promote and encourage healthy lifestyles, we offered preventative medical checks via our Commercial Union Vita tour in ten Polish cities. We also promoted the importance of receiving these checks through a press campaign which featured in Men’s Health magazine.
