Kurt Smith, a 13 year old from Boort is ready to take his place on court at the Australian Open 2009.
Kurt will be joining a squad of more than 300 Aviva Ballkids from Australia, India, Singapore and Korea.
Aviva Ballkids are chosen from thousands of applicants each year. The selection of Aviva Ballkids begins in April with practice sessions during November and December where they are tested for fitness, ball skills and most importantly, their attitude towards the important role they play during the Australian Open.
When asked about his training, Kurt who was an Aviva Ballkid in 2008 said that playing tennis, inspiration and loving the game have been important in developing his skills.
"I wanted to be an Aviva Ballkid so I could gain new skills and take part in an international event," Kurt said.
The Australian Open 2009 will be Kurt's first time as an Aviva Ballkid. Kurt applied to become an Aviva Ballkid for the great experience and to have the opportunity to work with and support his favourite player, Novak Djokovic.
