Career
Patrick Regan joined the board of Aviva plc in February 2010 as chief financial officer and also became a member of Aviva's executive committee.
Patrick moved to Aviva from Willis Group Holdings Limited where he was group chief financial officer and chief operating officer. He joined Willis Group as chief financial officer in 2006 and took on the additional role of chief operating officer in 2008. In these roles, he was responsible for group finance, human resources, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, risk management, claims and real estate. He was also chairman of Willis Capital Markets and Advisory, the investment banking business which he established.
Key achievements during his time at Willis include leading the $2.1 billion acquisition of Hilb Rogal & Hobbs (a US public company), redesigning the group capital structure and implementing new group-wide risk management processes.
Before joining Willis, Patrick was group financial controller at Royal & Sun Alliance plc. In this role, he was responsible for investor relations, financial analysis, financial management information, financial reporting, regulatory projects and group planning.
Other previous roles include finance and claims director, UK general insurance at AXA SA, where he led teams working on finance, claims, actuarial strategy, procurement, risk management and compliance, capital management and mergers and acquisitions; controller, General Electric, where he was global controller for the consumer finance business in his last year with the company; and various roles at Grant Thornton, where he focused on corporate finance transactions and led the execution of various acquisition and disposal assignments.
