Back to the Board of directors

Andrew Moss has been group chief executive of Aviva plc, the world’s sixth largest insurance company since July 2007.

Since taking the helm at Aviva, Andrew has transformed Aviva’s operating model from a federation of independent businesses trading in 27 different countries into a successful global business operating under a single brand.

Under his leadership, Aviva created a new regional structure to get closer to customers and to unlock the full potential of its scale and to leverage expertise and best practises from around the world.

Since then the company has strengthened its market position in the UK, become Europe’s largest bank partner for insurance and doubled the size of its US life and savings business. Aviva has also invested in future markets, significantly growing its Asian business to become China’s second largest foreign life insurer and entered several new markets including Taiwan and South Korea.

At the same time, Aviva has continued to deliver strong results despite tough economic conditions. The productivity across the group has been improved and its capital position significantly strengthened.

Andrew joined Aviva as group finance director in May 2004 and has been a member of the plc board since that time. Prior to joining Aviva, Andrew was director of finance, risk management and operations at Lloyd’s of London. Key achievements during his tenure there were to transform Lloyd’s financial reporting model and to manage the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy.

Prior to joining Lloyds he was chief financial officer for the investment bank and treasury businesses at HSBC, having previously worked in the global investment management business at Citibank.

Andrew holds a degree in law from Christ Church, Oxford.
