Julian was appointed Interim Group Chief Risk Officer in April 2019.
Julian is responsible for leading the risk function (including risk, actuarial, compliance and financial crime). At a Group level, he’s a member of the Aviva Leadership team. As part of the role, Julian chairs the Group Operational Risk Committee.
Julian has considerable experience at executive level in the field of risk and governance. He was previously Group Chief Audit Officer for two years. He’s also held a variety of roles in finance, risk and audit during his time at Aviva, including Chief Risk Officer, General Insurance. Julian ran the Solvency II programme for our general insurance businesses.
Before joining Aviva in 2001, Julian was Chief Financial Officer of a London Market reinsurer. Prior to that, he spent 13 years with Coopers & Lybrand, a PwC legacy firm, with his focus on audit and advisory work for insurers in the UK, Europe and Australia.

Julian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).
