Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Aviva USA

As a new acquisition to the global Aviva family, this is the first year Aviva USA has produced this report. Throughout this report, there are some areas in which Aviva USA does not report for 2007, as the acquisition’s timing did not allow development of a 2007 plan using the Aviva framework. Rather, the pre-acquisition plans carried through 2007. In 2008, Aviva USA’s CSR activities will be aligned with the Aviva framework.

Responsibility for Aviva USA’s CSR plan is held by Jonna La Toure, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications. Chris Littlefield, a member of Aviva’s North American Region leadership team and Executive Vice President, General Counsel for Aviva USA, is the executive sponsor of Aviva USA’s CSR programme.

Awareness of Aviva USA’s commitment and plan starts at the senior leadership level, which has incorporated CSR components into its 2008 goals and objectives. In 2007, the company’s commitment to CSR was communicated to employees through a number of internal communications on the various aspects of CSR. The next step is communicating to external stakeholders, which is addressed in the 2008 Communications Plan.

CSR at Aviva Canada

In 2005, Aviva Canada began to develop a new, more robust CSR strategy. Responsibility for the company’s CSR portfolio was assigned to Sally Turney, Vice-President, Corporate Communications with executive sponsorship of the programme under Gillian Platt, Human Resources Director, North American Region.

Aviva Canada’s CSR programme has strengthened over the past few years. In 2006, the corporate communications team developed a strong and comprehensive community investment programme with the engagement of senior leaders, and input from employees across the country. In 2007, Aviva rolled out the new programme across the country.

Employees at Aviva Canada are informed of our commitment to CSR almost immediately upon hire through a presentation at their New Hire Orientation session. Existing employees are kept abreast of CSR activities through our intranet, face-to-face presentations and the microsite built for our signature charity, ThinkFirst.
