Our approach to CSR

CSR is fundamental to the way we conduct our businesses across Aviva Europe. We adopt the strategic framework defined by the Aviva Group and apply the policies, principles and governance set out by the CSR board to help ensure that we are consistent in our approach.

Aviva Europe is an evolving region, made up of businesses that have grown organically or by partnership agreements or acquisition. As a consequence, we recognise that levels of awareness in CSR and its positive impacts will be, in part, dependent on the maturity of each business and its integration with the culture and values of the Group.

To promote understanding and good practice, each business has a designated employee responsible for the development and communication of CSR within its business unit.

The CSR focus for the European region for 2008 is to:

  • Build a higher awareness of CSR within our employee base. This will enable us to continue to raise CSR issues internally and in the wider community and is part of our Employer Brand proposition.
  • Embed CSR in each of our businesses. This year we will launch a region-led initiative, focusing on raising levels of understanding and engagement in CSR to embed our approach in all our business units.
  • Share best practice. We will encourage the exchange of ideas and good CSR practice across our region and with the Aviva Group. Using new and existing tools and programmes we will help to develop our CSR agenda and agree a common approach for best practice to be developed and shared.
