Progress in 2007
| Objectives | Progress against objectives |
|---|---|
| Recruit and develop leaders who excite their people to create a motivated and service-focused workforce | We refreshed our approach to recruitment and selection of senior leaders to better reflect our values and ambition to excite people. |
| Strengthen our talent by participating actively in the global talent task force and develop interventions which enhance the capability of our talent, creating a talent management mindset | ‘Talking Talent’ encourages us to have honest conversations about our performance and development. It will be rolled out in 2008. |
| Refresh the Leadership Survey to focus teams on achieving ‘strongly agree’ results, therefore challenging managers to address what is needed to make Norwich Union a great place to work | Good progress was made, with all business units improving their ‘strongly agree’ results. |
| Enable employees to move more easily between roles | This will be addressed by ‘Talking Talent’, developed in 2007 and due to be rolled out in 2008. |
| Monitor flexible working activities | In line with a legislative change, we altered our policy to enable those caring for other adults to request flexible working arrangements. |
| Consider diversity issues in our recruitment marketing, with a view to strengthening employee talent | We have placed recruitment advertisements in publications including Where Women Want to Work, Stonewall, Ethnic Britain, RADAR and Arberry Pink alongside mainstream publications. |
| Consider the next stage in the Leadership and Care programme, as part of our diversity agenda | The Leadership and Care programme is under review in light of operating model changes. |
Produce a Stress and Well Being Policy |
Jonathan Cleeland (Medical Director, Norwich Union Occupational Health) works closely with the HSE on Occupational Health matters, including stress and health management. Stress and Well Being Policy created and distributed. |
| Work closely with group and the Health and Safety Executive to promote lifestyle awareness including fitness, posture, relaxation techniques, managing stress and healthy eating | During ‘07 we also worked with CIPD, HSE, Dame Carol Black (National Director for Health & Work) to the Government on advising and supporting their work on stress management, absence management and sickness management. |
| Continue to embed Leadership and Care in RAC | We delivered a National Road Show, focusing on the importance of leadership and creating better understanding of the leadership survey tool. We also ran leadership workshops in various RAC divisions. Leadership survey response rates and scores have improved over the last year. |
