We now have a new head office in Des Moines, Iowa with agents and representatives located across the United States.  Our primary business activities are life insurance and annuity products.

Business Overview

In November 2006 Aviva USA and AmerUs Group combined to provide more products and services for customers in the US. Our strategic focus is on life insurance and annuity products, including universal life, term life, indexed life, fixed annuities and index annuities. We are a leader in the US market, ranked 1st in indexed life sales and 3rd in indexed annuities. 

Aviva USA has a new head office in Des Moines, Iowa, with agents and representatives located across the United States. The President of Aviva USA is Thomas Godlasky. 

Managing CSR in our business

Given the size of our business, there is no single department with overall responsibility for CSR initiatives. Nonetheless, adherence to group policies in the various areas, which constitute the separate elements of CSR, are taken seriously. Responsibilities for these various areas are spread across the human resources, IT, Finance, Administration, Law departments as well as the Community Involvement Committee (CIC).

Reporting on our progress in each of these areas takes place at local board level, at group level and in the monthly key performance indicators submitted to the Aviva International team in London. Tom Hart and Colleen Sheehan, our CSR-nominated managers, are responsible for the company’s CSR programme.

Our Community Involvement Committee (CIC) was formed three years ago and has made a significant impact on raising awareness and understanding of our CSR programme. The CIC is dedicated to supporting local non-profit organizations and promoting CSR. The mission of the CIC is to evaluate and sponsor specific community outreach activities, providing information and raising awareness about potential opportunities, and encouraging volunteering and corporate philanthropy. A senior executive sponsor, chair and co-chair lead the committee. This group created important sub-committees including Community Outreach, Fundraising, United Way and Communications.

According to our most recent employee opinion survey, 96% of Aviva USA feels that we act responsibly in the society and community in which we operate. This confirms that we are communicating and raising awareness of CSR in the workplace. 

This year’s CSR report covers performance for the USA business excluding the AmerUs Group operations. We will report on all operations in our next report.
