Business Overview

Aviva Spain employs around 600 people, working in eight businesses spread across the country. At the end of 2006 we were ranked 3rd in the Spanish insurance market with sales of €1,254 million, and a market share of 8%.

Aviva’s primary activities are life, health and accident insurance and pension plans through two distribution channels: a bancassurance network in partnership with five savings banks, and through Aviva Vida y Pensiones, wholly owned by Aviva.

Aviva holds 50% and management control over the joint-ventures with: Aseval, Unicorp Vida, Bia Galicia and Caja España Vida. Unicorp Vida, in turn, holds 50% of General Vida, which operates as an insurance agency.

The remaining 50% of each of these companies belongs to five of the biggest regional savings banks in Spain. These banks distribute Aviva products, exclusively, through their branches. Aseval operates as a “single factory” for the other joint ventures, providing them with administrative and IT products and services. Aviva Vida y Pensiones distributes its products through sales agents and broker network. This strategy is complementary to the bancassurance distribution.

Finally, we have Aviva Corporación, which is the corporate governance company that co-ordinates the business and operation of the different companies in Spain. 

Managing CSR in our business

The CSR-nominated manager Jorge Martínez, Company Secretary, is also the Legal/HR/Group Policies Director for Aviva in Spain and is therefore responsible for co-ordinating the definition and implementation of CSR strategies.

Each business unit in Spain also has a nominated policy owner for CSR, who is accountable for the implementation in the businesses.

We have a CSR working group with representatives from all our business units. It is an open forum in which to share ideas and combine our strengths in order to continue developing our CSR policy.

Within our industry, awareness of CSR is growing. Annually, UNESPA (Union of Spanish Insurance Entities) publishes a CSR report and Aviva Spain collaborates with this.
