Norwich Union is the largest insurer in the UK. We employ more than 30,000 people in over 21 locations across the UK and nearly 5,000 people in four employment locations in India.

We are the leading long-term savings provider with a life market share of about 12% and more than 6 million customers. Norwich Union is also the largest general insurer with an overall market share of 14% and 4.3 million customers, insuring one in five households, one in seven motor vehicles and more than 800,000 businesses in the UK.

With around seven million members, RAC is one of the UK's most progressive motoring organisations, providing services for both private and business motorists. Whether it's roadside assistance, windscreen repair and replacement, learning to drive, vehicle inspections and checks, legal and financial services or up-to-the-minute traffic and travel information – RAC is able to meet motorists' needs. RAC incorporates BSM, RAC Auto Windscreens, RAC Direct Insurance and HPI.

The Executive Chairman of Norwich Union is Patrick Snowball. The Chief Executive of Norwich Union Insurance is Simon Machell and of Norwich Union Life is Mark Hodges. Debbie Hewitt is the Managing Director of RAC.

Managing CSR in our business

Norwich Union has adopted or adapted the Aviva CSR policies which are jointly owned by executive and senior managers. Activity under the policy headings is governed through a central steering group and fulfilled through local working groups: for the environment (Think Global, Act Local), staff volunteering and community and sponsorship workshops. The same principles and practices have been adopted by the RAC for 2006.

Norwich Union has a dedicated CSR team, with a nominated CSR Manager – James Leach. The nominated manager for RAC is Dave Todd – RAC Service Delivery Director.

At senior management level our CSR programme is overseen by Director of Public Affairs, Nick Pierson and at executive level by Corporate Affairs Director, Ben Welsh.

The CSR team consists of a CSR Projects Manager, Community and Education Manager, Community Affairs Consultant and four CSR Consultants, split across our sites in York and Norwich.

The group six-monthly compliance process is adhered to by all owners relevant to the group CSR policy.
