Supporting health and social welfare

Aviva Spain continued its successful solidarity initiative with UNICEF and the child vaccination programme. A contribution is made to UNICEF’s child vaccination health project for every customer who takes out a Solidarity Pension Plan, regardless of the size of their premium or transfer amount. The initiative follows the success of the campaign in 2005, which resulted in more than 100,000 children being vaccinated.

Last year we continued our support for breast cancer charity events around the world. In the UK, we sponsored the “Aviva Weekend to Breakthrough Breast Cancer”, where exhausted walkers in London and Birmingham raised a staggering £5.3 million for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. As well as taking part in the walk, our employees volunteered practical help, helping to put up tents, serve meals and distribute water and goodie bags to walkers.

Aviva Weekend to Breakthrough Breast Cancer

In Canada’s “Weekend to End Breast Cancer”, we sponsored pit stops in seven cities, where walkers could rest during their 60 km treks, and Aviva volunteers, plus families and friends, helped to raise C$205,000.

To promote and encourage healthy lifestyles, Commercial Union (CU) Poland continued to offer its successful preventative medical checks via its CU Vita tour in 10 Polish cities. It also promoted the importance of receiving these checks through a press campaign which featured in Men’s Health magazine.

Delta Lloyd Life in Belgium sponsors the public information and research campaign which the Belgian Cardiology League is organising for general practitioners and the public, based on its commitment to the values of proximity, solidarity and public welfare. The Belgian Cardiology League is an information and consultation platform for patients with cardiovascular disorders. It was set up almost 40 years ago with the help of medical specialists and politicians to help prevent cardiovascular disease.
