Aviva plc CSR report 2007

Aviva Head Office

We employ over 700 employees in 6 locations across the UK. We are responsible for providing clear leadership on group-wide strategy and resource allocation, and for performance and stakeholder management.

Key achievements in 2006

To raise awareness of CSR throughout the business we communicated our CSR initiatives and policies through a variety of mediums including our intranet (Insite), notice boards and e-mails.

To engage employees in our efforts to combat climate change we launched an energy consumption awareness campaign as part of our environmental management programme. Energy notice boards have been installed throughout Aviva’s head office in London, which feature new initiatives and a breakdown of usage and costs per floor. Aviva head office was the first to agree the adoption of carbon balancing.

In 2006, 90% of our waste was recycled or incinerated. In recognition of our responsible waste management practices, we were awarded, for the third consecutive year, the Platinum Award by the Lord Mayor of London for our part in the Corporation of London’s Clean City Awards Scheme.

To raise awareness of the importance of diversity in the workplace we successfully launched an Aviva Women’s Network.

To help Breakthrough Breast Cancer raise the funds needed to sustain its important research work, Aviva took title sponsorship of the Aviva Weekend Walk to Breakthrough, which was the biggest single fund-raising event carried out by the charity.

As a result of our health & safety awareness campaign, all line managers are now fully aware of their responsibilities. An audit was carried out in all Aviva head office locations to confirm understanding and compliance.

Further information on the above achievements and additional examples of our progress across all areas of the CSR programme can be found in the attached PDF.
