Disaster relief

Tsunami
Across the group, strong support was shown for the victims of the Asian tsunami. By matching funds raised by staff and through salary sacrifices and volunteering, over £700,000 (of which £200,000 came from employees) was donated to the relief effort.

Funds were donated directly to aid organisations, for example, Aviva Italy co-ordinated its funds raised funds to help Asian children affected by the tsunami through UNICEF.

The funds raised among the UK businesses were consolidated and specific projects were identified by Oxfam and Concern India to help those affected across Asia.

Aviva Offshore Services supported the rebuild of 10 houses in a village Seenigama, Sri Lanka.

The handover of Aviva Village on 26 December was completed in a simple ceremony organised by the Aviva Offshore Services CSR committee.

Hurricane Katrina
Aviva USA employees donated a generous $10,470 to the aid appeal following Hurricane Katrina. Aviva contributed the maximum match from the company of $10,000. Therefore contributing a total of $20,470 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.

Pakistan earthquake
Aviva Australia raised money for the victims of the Pakistan earthquake.
