The Aviva board reviews the direction and progress of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme each year.

There are those who question the business rationale for CSR. They debate the benefits to the company.

In business, there has always been a justified focus on the quantitative measures of performance. However, it is equally true that a quality company strives to be respected for the way in which it conducts its business.

At Aviva, we believe that you should do the right thing. Not because you have worked out that it will not cost too much, but because you know you should not do otherwise. Following a path of CSR is a fundamental and integral part of doing business today.

One of Aviva’s key values is integrity. Our CSR programme is the engine of delivery for many of our aspirations under integrity. Fulfilling our CSR policy commitments is not an event, but a never-ending series of events. This report updates on the progress we have made since the launch of the CSR policy at the beginning of 2002.

Our board is wholly committed to the programme and believes in its value –both to the business and therefore to all our stakeholders.
