As a major investor, the Group monitors the governance of the companies in which it invests. Aviva Investors, the Group's asset management company, has regular meetings with senior management of companies where it will raise all relevant matters which may affect the performance of those companies.

Aviva Investors operates a Corporate Governance and Voting Policy in respect of the voting rights it holds in UK companies. The policy also extends to cover social, environmental and ethical issues. Details of how voting discretion has been used on any particular issue are available to clients upon request. In addition, Aviva Investors engages with the management of the companies in which invests on contentious matters, and its policy is applied flexibly after careful consideration of all relevant information.
