Career
Trevor joined the board of Aviva plc in December 2011 as chief executive, Aviva UK and also became a member of Aviva's group executive committee. On 19 April 2012 Trevor was appointed executive director, developed markets.
Immediately before joining Aviva, Trevor was vice chairman of Friends Life where he previously served as chief executive officer between 2009 and 2011. In the latter role, he led the takeover and integration of the majority of AXA's UK life business and of BUPA's life business. The combined group now has over five million customers and 5,500 staff.
Between 2008 and 2009 he was chief executive officer of Friends Provident plc which he led through its acquisition by Resolution Limited in November 2009. While at Friends Provident, Trevor was responsible for the UK life and pensions, international life and distribution businesses. He was a member of the board of Friends Provident plc and F&C Asset Management plc.
Trevor previously served as chief executive of Standard Life Assurance Company Limited, Standard Life's UK life and pension business, between 2004 and 2008. In this role he was responsible for Standard Life's successful operational performance. He was also president and chief executive officer of Manulife in Japan between 2001 and 2004 and executive vice president, Canadian operations and chairman, Manulife Bank, Toronto between 1998 and 2001. He has also held senior management positions at National Australia Bank and Legal & General Assurance Holdings Australia Limited.

External board appointments and affiliations
Trevor is chairman of the Financial Skills Partnership and a commissioner for the UK Commission for Employment and Skills.
During his career in Australia Trevor was, at various times, a board member of the Life, Investment and Superannuation Association of Australia and President of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. He also chaired the enquiry into indexing government pensions for the Australian government (the Matthews Report). Trevor previously served as President of the Chartered Insurance Institute, an organisation with 93,000 members worldwide. During his time in Japan, Trevor was a board member of the Life Insurance Association of Japan. He has also previously been a board member of the Life Office Management Association in the United States.
