Asia Pacific

Our programmes

In Asia, we have delivered over 45 community development projects in 2011, which have focused on developing access to education for thousands of street and underprivileged children, helping people stay safer and responding after tragedy strikes, such as the devastating earthquakes in Indonesia in 2011.

India

India has the largest number of street children in the world, with 51,000 street children in New Delhi alone. We've partnered with CRY (Child Rights and You) and Save the Children in India to help more than 100,000 street children achieve their rights and gain access to education and training by 2012.

The 'Aviva Great Wall of Education' is a cornerstone project for Street to School. Over 2 million educational books have been collected and distributed to our charity partners in three years. These have reached more than 200,000 children. In 2011 Aviva India won a Silver Effies award for advertising effectiveness for the Great Wall and innovative use of digital channels.

In 2012, we will be continuing our work with street children ensuring their voice is heard.

China

'Twinkling Stars', Aviva's Street to School project in China, aims to help 'left behind' children, who are missing out on educational opportunities as a result of industrialisation and urbanisation in China.

Aviva has funded the transformation of 20 schools to create Twinkling Stars Care Houses. The aim is to create a safe, positive environment were the children can learn, play and achieve their dreams.

In 2011 we reached 28,000 children through counselling, teaching support, education resources and a specially tailored safe and positive environment, bringing our total impact to over 50,000 children.

The programme is strongly supported by our employees and customers who volunteered over 4000 hours in 2011 to help set up and launch the Twinkling Stars programme in their community.

Indonesia

In Indonesia we support Sahabat Anak (SA), which was launched in 1997 and supports the mentoring of street children in Jakarta and surrounding areas.

Aviva Indonesia has organised educational toy drops and supports the SA Jamboree which raises awareness of the issues faced by street children in Jakarta.

Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka we are working at village level and with the Government in a unique public-private partnership to improve the education facilities of children from particularly deprived backgrounds.

In 2011 we supported the opening of Sanhinda Children's Home, a safe and loving home for 60 street children who have suffered trauma as a result of their life on the street. Aviva NDB has funded a full-time counsellor for the home and we've also supplied educational equipment.

In 2012, we will be helping to build grassroots schooling for children who have been left without access to school as a result of the recent civil war. We will be doing the same in the tea plantation community where we have worked to create Aviva NDB's first micro life insurance product.

Singapore

In Singapore we partner with the Student Advisory Council to provide children with the equipment and clothes that they need to participate fully in education. In 2011, we helped more than 700 children. Over the past two years, we have sponsored a 'Heroes Camp', helping 50 children to find the hero in themselves.

On the International day for Street Children, Aviva Singapore helped to promote healthy eating by inviting employees and underprivileged children to a fun packed healthy hands-on cook and learn workshop.

Malaysia

CIMB Aviva has launched their Street to School program with Persatuan Kebajikan HOPE worldwide, Kuala Lumpur. They provide children with scholarships, after school education support, uniforms, bags and stationery to help them go to school.

Hong Kong

Aviva Hong Kong work with the Boys and Girls Association, to support underprivileged children to get access to school equipment.
