Aviva ranked amongst best in carbon ranking

Date: 01 Mar 2011

Aviva has been ranked second best in the ET UK 100 Carbon Ranking. Introduced by the Environmental Investment Organisation (EIO), a UK non-profit research body, the ET UK 100 Carbon Ranking, spotlights the UK’s biggest 100 companies according to their greenhouse gas emissions and levels of transparency.

The ranking follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the internationally recognised standard for emission reporting and Aviva came second best with carbon intensities 1.36 (metric tonnes of CO2 per million dollars of turnover), closely behind Amlin who came in at 1.21.

Only companies that publicly disclose and also independently verify their emissions data made it into the top category which we do to demonstrate our commitment and ensure credibility for our carbon reporting.

Carbon reductions have been achieved in the UK through voltage optimisers, boiler optimisers and matching plant times with occupancy. We're not stopping there, as remote PC power-saving is being rolled-out across the UK and we're investigating other measures such as LED lighting.
