Romania: Aviva gives CR talk at British Embassy
Date: 23 Mar 2009
Aviva Romania recently gave a presentation at the British Embassy in Bucharest about its house-building corporate responsibility (CR) activity.
The audience included 70 participants from SMEs, NGOs and multinational companies, including RBS, Vodafone and Provident.
The presentation was given by Corina Licea, director human resources, Aviva Romania, who stressed the importance of CR to Aviva as a way of raising awareness, changing attitudes, building teams and increasing commitment amongst employees. She said it also develops leaders and makes a difference in the local community.
Corina highlighted Romania’s “Habitat for Humanity” project, which saw Aviva staff build one house in Craiova in April 2006 followed by three more in Cluj in October 2006. Work on another house was also started. A total of 86 volunteers from three continents and five countries took part, from the UK, USA, Turkey, Hong Kong and Romania. Nineteen Aviva Romania employees also participated in the blitz build, with the total Aviva sponsorship exceeding €100.000.
In September 2008 two further houses were built in Cumpana village in Constanta county. A team of 25 volunteers from Aviva Romania and Europe were involved in the latest project.
One grateful homeowner said: “We are so grateful for what you’ve done for us. Sign your names on the houses, it will mean a lot to us and be in our hearts every day.”
