China: Aviva staff put CARE values into action
Aviva-Cofco employees and management have been doing everything possible to support the victims of the tragedy in Sichuan.
Eric Chang, president of Aviva-Cofco, led the way with a 元10,000 (£750) donation to an impromptu collection box established at the Beijing headquarters. Within 30 minutes, other Beijing staff contributed a further 元50,000 (£3,750).
Aviva-Cofco offices and employees across China raised that total to 元350,000 (£25,500), which Aviva-Cofco match- funded, sending 元700,000 (£51,000) to the Red Cross Society of China on Friday 16 May.
Turkey: AvivaSA helps victims of China earthquake
AvivaSA has given a helping hand to the victims of the Chinese earthquake in Sichuan province.
Having experienced similar tragedy during the Turkish earthquake of 1999, AvivaSA's 331 employees were keen to donate money to Oxfam China's relief fund.
AvivaSA general manager Meral Egemen said: "We wanted to help China get through this disaster. The healing process will certainly take a long time.
"Within the Aviva family it is hard to find another country that can understand the pain and desperation caused by an earthquake.
"For us, the earthquake that happened in August 1999 is still a fresh memory."
She added: "One Aviva is not just about uniting under a common brand; it means sharing a common spirit. As a country that has had first-hand experience of the tragedy of an earthquake disaster, we feel the deepest sympathy for China."
