Turkey: AvivaSA holds CEO Forum on climate change
Date: 09 Jun 2008
Leading members of the business world gathered to talk about climate change at a CEO Forum in Istanbul, organised by AvivaSA Emeklilik ve Hayat (AvivaSA), Capital and Ekonomist magazines and WWF-Turkey.
Among the attendees was Jim Leape, WWF chairman who, together with the CEOs present, underlined companies' responsibilities regarding climate change.
AvivaSA, the group's life and pensions business in Turkey, has already demonstrated
its commitment to CSR with the launch of its "Save for your future" campaign, which encourages people to save rather than consume.
Highlighting this, Meral Egemen, AvivaSA general manager, said: "We should find ways to reproduce things that we have wasted and we should find ways to waste less.
"By being here, we have realised the first of our efforts to widen this sense of responsibility, because we believe that the real responsibility is the one which we feel for our world environment.
"Each value that we reach here will be invaluable to us. And at AvivaSA, like all the companies here, we will be starting to work more actively for our future."
In his presentation Jim Leape explained what people should do to realise a future in which they will live in harmony with nature. He also mentioned the economic effects of global warming and shared research findings devoted to the effects of climate change on water resources, forests, the sea and the costs involved.
Other CEOs attending the meeting also shared the steps their companies are taking in relation to the issue.
