Our Programme
Our vision for corporate responsibility (CR) is to act responsibly for the long term in how we do business, to help meet our ambition of being the world's most trusted savings, investment and insurance provider. Our vision and strategy for CR is aligned to the company strategy and informed by stakeholder analysis, to make sure that we meet their needs, from our employees and customers to our shareholders and investors.
For Aviva, CR covers a broad spectrum of activities; the management of our relations with our employees, customers, suppliers and the community as well as the management of our performance in respect of standards of business conduct, environment, human rights and diversity. To read more about each of these, use the left hand navigation menu.
Our programme covers all our business operations worldwide. It is overseen at group level by the group CR team in London, led by Louella Eastman, group CR director. Appointed nominated managers in the businesses are responsible for managing the CR programme locally. We also have a dedicated Board CR Committee which is responsible for CR strategy and policy, and for reviewing the progress of our CR programme. The committee is made up of three non-executive directors, Aviva's chairman and the group's chief executive. Further details can be found in the CR committee's Terms of Reference.
Managing and reducing our impact on the environment continues to be a priority for our business. In addition to reducing our consumption and sourcing zero emissions electricity, we have become the first carbon neutral insurer covering worldwide operations. This is done by offsetting our remaining emissions through gaining carbon credits from projects in countries where we operate and in Africa. The projects provide both social and environmental benefits.
Our performance in developing and managing our CR programme is recognised by a range of external parties, including indices, ratings agencies and investors. For example, we continue to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability indices and are a member of the FTSE4Good index series. We have also received numerous awards for our diversity agenda, including the Global Diversity and Innovation Award at the World Diversity Leaders Summit in 2007, hosted by the United Nations Global Compact.
In addition to embedding CR in Aviva, we continue to participate in external forums to contribute to developing the external agenda on important CR issues, such as climate change.
