| Entered company service in 1935 aged 15 and was working in the Accounts Department when he volunteered for the SAAF. Initially reported missing then killed in action when his plane was shot down. Buried at Budapest. Obituary in staff magazine reads "He was a steady and ernest lad he very soon endered himself to all of us. This was not only on account of his quiet and unassuming ways, but also, to a great extent, because of his consideration for others with whom he worked, his willingness generally and his keen desire to give of his best to his employers. He was a diligent and able boy for whom the future held good prospects. The loss of so promising a young life and good companion at a time when the conclusion of the war in Europe had made us look forward to the return of our boys is keenly felt and to his parent we extend sincere and profound sympathy in a loss which only time and fond memories can ease." | |
