Flew Wellingtons and later Lancasters. On one operation near Leipzig, both turrets of his aircraft became unserviceable soon after entering enemy territory, but after evading an enemy fighter he reached and bombed his objective. Had flown 30 operations when decorated in December 1945. Citation ends: "His keenness and gallantry in face of the enemy have set a stirring example to all members of his squadron." Returned to company service in June 1946. Worked for the company in Lincoln and Dublin before his retirement in 1978 as manager at Birmingham branch.
