Entered company service in 1937. Decorated 16 November 1943 in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy. Official citation reads "As pilot and observer respectively, Flying Officers Newhouse and Tate have undertaken many sorties at night during which they have destroyed 5 enemy aircraft. They have displayed exceptional skill and keenness, setting an example of a high order. Returned to company service post war working in Leicester, Kettering and Northampton branches and retiring in 1980.

Born November 1920. Entered company service on 12 July 1938 as a clerk. Moved to Aldwych branch on 08 July 1940 as ledger and cancellments clerk. Joined the RAF on 16 October 1940. Awarded DFC on 17 March 1945. Resumed duty at branch on 01 October 1946. Left company 16 September 1947.

Additional information

Initially member of the Fire Department at Head Office. A keen sportsman playing cricket and rugby for Perthshire. Decorated by September 1943 for "great courage and navigational ability."
