Died at the Battle of Loos. A letter written by his comrade records his final hours "he had behaved magnificently all through the day, and had he lived would have been recommended for the DCM [Distinguished Conduct Medal]; he most certainly deserved it if any one did. It was some hours after the charge that he met his death – he was engaged in bomb throwing at the time and was killed instantly by a sniper."
