Ulster Marine Insurance Company Ltd

The Ulster Marine Insurance Company was incorporated in Belfast on November 7 1867. In 1918, it was acquired by the Yorkshire Insurance Company Ltd, which became a subsidiary of the General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Company Ltd in 1967.

The company was established as a marine insurer by Belfast marine agents Sinclair & Boyd. In 1891, the company extended its business to include general transport insurance.

Following its acquisition by the Yorkshire, the company continued to offer marine, aviation and transport insurance. It ceased underwriting in 1963 when its entire account was transferred to the Yorkshire and, by 1991, the company was dormant.

The company went into liquidation on October 26 2006.
