Delta Lloyd N.V.
Delta Lloyd was established in 1968 as Delta Verzekeringsgroep NV following the merger of Hollandsche Societiet van Levensverzekeringen NV and Amsterdamse Maatschappij van Levensverzekeringen. On December 22 1999, following a merger with Nuts Ohra, the company was renamed Delta Lloyd Nuts Ohra NV and became Delta Lloyd NV on January 1 2002.

Established as a composite insurer, the company merged with Nederlandsche Lloyd in 1969 and was renamed Delta Lloyd Verzekeringsgroep NV. The group was acquired by the Commercial Union Assurance Company Ltd in 1973. By 2001, the company was operating as a customer and service orientated financial services provider.

Did you know...?
- Nedlloyd, one of the group's constituents, introduced burglary insurance to the continent and was also the first insurance company to sponsor sport.
- The Hollandsche Societiet van Levensverzekeringen, founded in 1807 by Antoni Hartsen, issued its first policy on the life of Lady Engeltje Nagel for 50,000 guilders. In 1808, the company refused an application for a policy on the life of the Emperor Napoleon by a third party, considering it simply a wager policy on the life of a "crowned person".
