Subjects: History - Staff memories

Some time ago, I received a great deal of useful information (much of it through the pensioner's web site www.avivafellowship.org) in answer to a question I had asked concerning ticket machines for travel insurance situated at stations and airports. Perhaps the most informative response came from David Johnson who went on to tell me about other experiences such as going to visit housemasters at public schools because the company insured the trunks travelling to and from school.

Information like this and indeed about the machines selling insurance simply isn't available in the material which reaches the archive. It just goes to show how important it is that we encourage as many former employees as possible to write down their memories of working for our group companies. Often what seems mundane and routine may not be recorded anywhere in the documents that form the archive and without this information we are in danger of developing an inaccurate account of how Aviva Group companies operated.
