Italy
We comprise seven life and three general insurance businesses and are the sixth-largest life insurer in Italy, with a market share of 6%, and the 13th-largest general insurer, with a 1% market share.
The majority of our business is from bancassurance partnerships - more than four million customers can buy our products via 6,200 branches of the UniCredit Group, Banca delle Marche, Aviva Assicurazioni Vita (formerly UBI Vita) and Banco Popolare. We’ve also a stake in Banca Network Investimenti, a 1,000-strong financial adviser network.
The Aviva group has operated in Italy since 1921 through the Commercial Union and Northern brands, and we currently employ around 540 staff. Read more about our history.
We work hard to anticipate the needs of our customers and to satisfy requests from distributors. Each year Aviva introduces or improves more than 35 new life products.
We provide traditional life insurance, alongside a range of index-linked, unit-linked and capitalisation products. We also offer pensions.
Our general insurance portfolio is made up of personal insurances (motor, household and travel cover, for example) and small commercial risks, including marine.
